Treat you people like true people and they will walk over hot coals for you. Support them and understand their motives. Be aware of their goals and the capacity you have to help them achieve these goals.
Be candour and honest. Honest feedback from a manager is more openly accepted than false insincere direction.
Many managers today command loyalty and communicate to their staff through what they believe is in a language they will understand, they adjust their social style to help deliver their message in the hope that they will get the message across in a way that will make it happen. This is ineffective as staff sees this as manipulation and distances them from the overall goal even further.
Become a leader and treat your direct reports and all other members of the organization as people, as equals with a common goal.
